Cbana Labs

Cbana Laboratories was founded in 2006 to commercialize adsorbents and microfluidic and microanalytical devices originally developed in the laboratories of Professors Rich Masel and Mark Shannon at the University of Illinois. To date, this technology has attracted more than $10.5 million in Federal research funding, and it continues to be a national priority.

Technologies include:

  • Banasorb™ revolutionary series of a metal organic framework based adsorbent for pollutant capture and analysis in homes, businesses and the government.
  • MicGC™, a MEMS based sensor system for the detection of drugs and dangerous materials in air and in breath.
  • The microfluidic components to allow the devices to work:
o MEMS based pumps and preconcentrators for gas sampling
o MEMS based microvalves for flow control
o MEMS based separators to largely eliminate false positives in sensor systems
